Trump says he is a target in U.S. 2020 election probe

Former President Donald Trump said he has received a letter from Special Counsel Jack Smith stating that he is a target of a grand jury investigation into efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election result.

A letter would represent the clearest sign to date that Trump, front-runner for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination, may face federal criminal charges around his efforts to remain in power after losing the election to Joe Biden.

Trump's legal woes so far have failed to dent his efforts to win the 2024 Republican nomination. His lead in opinion polls has widened in recent months and his Republican rivals have largely supported him in the face of several criminal probes. Read more.

FTC, U.S. regulators crack down on illegal robocalls, telemarketing

U.S. regulators have announced a nationwide crackdown to stop companies from inundating people with billions of unwanted and illegal robocalls and telemarketing calls. Operation Stop Scam Calls involves the Federal Trade Commission and 101 other federal and state law enforcement authorities, including the attorneys general of all 50 states and Washington, D.C. Calif. top court makes it easier for nonprofits, unions to sue companies

A seven-member panel of the California Supreme Court ruled that a lobbying group for doctors can pursue a challenge to an Aetna’s unit's physician referral policy. The court unanimously held that organizations have standing to sue for unfair competition under state law when they expend money and time to address potentially illegal conduct on behalf of their members. The decision that could pave the way for more lawsuits by nonprofit groups and unions. Read more.
