New Jersey's Commissioner of Environmental Protection Shawn LaTourette told reporters that firefighting crews helped avert "a major disaster" in partially containing a raging wildfire.   The blaze could become the largest in New Jersey in about 20 years, said LaTourette. Tesla investors breathed a sigh of relief after CEO Elon Musk said he would refocus his attention on the electric automaker, but that promise did not entirely dispel worries that his right-wing shift had irrevocably damaged the company's brand. The automaker's shares rose about 5% on Wednesday after Musk said he would cut back his work for U.S. President Donald Trump to a day or two per week from sometime next month after Tesla posted a 71% slump in net income and a sharp drop in automotive revenue. The billionaire's work as an adviser to Trump and his embrace of right-wing politics in Europe have drawn widespread opposition, including protests and vandalism at Tesla showrooms. "His time is very valuable, and I think Tesla needs his attention," Ross Gerber, CEO of Gerber Kawasaki Wealth and Investment Management and a prominent investor, told Reuters. Boeing's  CEO pledged on Wednesday to protect the U.S. planemaker's recovery from the effects of a U.S.-China trade war, after reporting a smaller-than-expected quarterly loss and higher jet output that boosted shares in midday trade. The trade dispute led to the recent return of two Boeing planes destined for China. But CEO Kelly Ortberg said the company has avoided broader damage from tariffs and could redirect jets to other airlines that have been "asking for additional airplanes." Boeing planned to deliver about 50 aircraft to customers this year in China. Orders from Chinese carriers represent about 10% of the planemaker's commercial backlog.
